LCD screen
LCDsc reenNotes
High-quality TFT displays are installed in notebooks from Fujitsu Technology Solutions GmbH. For
technical reasons, TFT monit ors are man ufactured for a specific resolution. An optimal, clear
picture can only be ensured w ith the correct resolutio n intended for the relevant TFT monitor. A
monitor resolution which differs from the specification can result in an unclear picture.
The screen resolution of the LCD monitor of your notebook is optimally set at the factory.
The standard of production techniques tod ay ca nnot guarant ee an absolutely fault-free screen
display. A few isolated constant lit or unlit pixels (picture elements) may be present. The maximum
permitted number of pixels faults is stipulated in the inter national s tan dard ISO 9241-3 (Class II).
Example:
A monitor with a resolution of 128 0 x 800 has 1280 x 800 = 1024000 pixels. Each pixel c onsists of
three subpixels (red, green and blue), so there are almost 3 million subpixels in total. According to
ISO 9241-3 (class II), a maxim um of 2 light and 2 dark pixels and an additional 5 light or 10 dark
subpixels or a corresponding mix may be defective (1 light subpixel counts as 2 dark su bpixels).
Pixel A pixel consists of 3 subpixels, no rmally red, green and
blue. A pixel is the sm a llest element that can be gener ated
by complete functionality of the display.
Subpixel A subpixel is a separately addressable internal structure
within a pixel that enhances the pixel function.
Cluster A cluster contains two or more defective pixels or
subpixels in a 5 x 5 pixel block.
Background lighting
TFT monitors are operated with background lighting. The lum inosity of t he background
lighting can decrease during the period of use of the noteboo k. However, you can
set the brightness of your monitor individually.

The notebook has a serial port. If you wish to operate devices via a parallel port, then
use the Port Replicator which is available as an option for your notebook.
External devices can be c onnected to the parallel or se rial port (e.g. a printer or a modem).
►Connect the data cable to the external device.
►Depending on the device, connect the data c able to the parallel por t or the serial port.
For an exact description of how t o connect external devices to the co rrespon ding
port, please see the external device documentation.

Connecting USB devices
USB ports
On the USB ports, you can connect external devices that also have a USB port
(e.g. a DVD drive, a printer, a scanner or a modem).
USB devices are hot-pluggable. Th is means you can connect and disconnect
devices while your operating system is running.
USB 1.x ha s a maximum data transfer rate of 12 Mbit/s.
USB 2 .0 has a data transfer rate of up to 480 Mbit/s.
USB 3.0 has a data transfer rate of up to 5 Gbit/s.
Additional information can be found in the documentation for the USB devices.
►Connect the data cable to the
external device.
►Connect the data c able to a USB
port of the notebook.

Connecting external devices
USB port with charging function (Anytime USB charge)
USB cha rging func tio n
It is recommended that the notebook be operated with the power supply connected
whenever the USB port with ch arging function is in use, as this function will drain
the battery more quickly if an external USB d e vice is bein g cha rged.
The power supply unit must already be connected when the notebook is
switched off, as otherwise the USB charging function will be disabled and
the connecte d USB devices will not be charged.
Some USB devices (e.g. mobile telephones) req uire a driver in order to utilise the
USB charging function. In this case the USB charging function will not work when the
notebook is switched off, as no drivers are active when the notebook is switched off.
You can use this USB port to charge or supply power to a USB device (e.g. to charge a PDA
or a m o bile phone or to connect a USB lamp), even if the notebook is switched off.
