Mounting Instructions
Inductive nonflush mountable rectangular switches - adjustable / CSA Div. 2
Concerning Safety… ifm efector makes every effort to build a depend-
able product, but every product will eventually fail. Therefore, your equip-
ment must be designed to prevent property damage and personal injury
if our products fail. ifm efector proximity switches are not designed to be
used as stand-alone devices to protect or guard human life or limb.
Nonflush mountable rectangular switches should have a metal-free zone surrounding the sensing face in
accordance with the diagrams shown here.

Adjustment to Range
Place the target in position where detection is to take place.
If the factory setting of the sensitivity adjustment has not been
disturbed, the indicator LED should be on. Factory setting of the
sensitivity range involves tuning the switch so the LED just turns
on when a target is placed at the maximum sensing range of the
switch. The target should be made of mild steel and be at least as
large as the sensing area of the switch. Further adjustment is not
usually required.
If the indicator LED is not on, the application is beyond the range
of the switch. No increase in sensitivity above this setting should
be used even it it seems to work.
If there is a known position where the switch must be off, move
the target to that position and observe that the indicator LED
turns off. If it doesn’t, decrease the sensitivity (ccw) until it turns
off and continue an additional quarter turn. Verify that it still turns
on when the target is returned to its original position.
B = width of sensing face
 Sn = nominal sensing range
Wiring
The output of the switch can be programmed normally open
or normally closed. It will be shipped normally open unless
specified normally closed when ordered. To change from normally
open to normally closed, remove the wire from terminal 4 and
insert in terminal 5.
To access the terminal block, loosen the four screws on the switch
housing and remove the switch from the base. To remove or insert
a wire into the terminal block, apply firm downward pressure to
the top of one of the numbered rectangular openings with a
screwdriver or similar tool. The pressure from the screwdriver will
open the spring contact enabling you to remove or insert a wire.
ELECTRICAL
DO NOT operate an incandescent light bulb as a
load. The current inrush when the bulb is cold can
cause a current overload.
DO NOT operate a proximity sensor directly from a
voltage supply without a load. This is a short circuit
and can cause damage. Note: insert a miniature fuse
according to the technical data sheet, if specified.
WARNING
Explosion Hazard — substitution of components may impair suit-
ability of Class 1, Div. 2.
CAUTION
Nonmetallic enclosure does not provide grounding between con-
duit connections. Use grounding type bushing and jumper wires.
Use only ifm efector conduit adapters (U30029, U30030, U30031)
or other CSA certified conduit adapters.
