Magnetic cylinder sensor

Function and features

The cylinder sensor signals the position of the piston in a cylinder. It detects a ring

magnet in the piston of the cylinder when it passes the sensor and signals this by

means of an output signal.

• Can be used on all commercial cylinders made of nonmagnetizable material.

Installation

Fix the sensor on the cylinder. Position the sensing face so that it is about in the

place where you want to detect the position of the piston. You can find a selection

of mounting adapters at www.ifm.com/accessory.

Electrical connection

Disconnect power before connecting the sensor. Connection strictly to the

indications on the type label. Core colours for units with cable connection:

BN = brown, BU = blue, BK = black, WH = white.

Adjustment / operation

1. Bring the piston into the detection position.

2. Precisely align the sensor by means of the LED indication: The LED is lit when

the output is switched.

3. Tighten the clamp screw to secure it in the slot.

4. Mark the sensor position by inserting a rubber placeholder.

If the cylinder is mounted in the immediate vicinity of magnetisable

components, the switching characteristics of the sensor may change.
