This manual has instructions how to set up and register your new handset. For
complete instructions on using the handset, see the Abridged user’s manual that
came with your telephone base.

If you place the handset in the telephone base or charger without plugging in the
battery, the screen displays NO BATTERY.

If the handset will not be used for a long time, disconnect and remove the
battery to prevent possible leakage.

Battery installation
Install the battery as shown below.
Slide the battery compartment
cover towards the center of the
handset until it clicks into place.

base or charger to charge.

Battery charging
Once you have installed the battery, the screen indicates the battery status (see
the table below). For best performance, keep the handset in the telephone base
or charger when not in use. The battery is fully charged after 12 hours of
continuous charging.
If the screen is blank or displays Put in charger, you need to charge the handset
without interruption for at least 30 minutes to give the handset enough charge to
use the telephone for a short time. When the battery is low, the handset displays
Low battery along with a ashing icon. If you are on a call in low battery mode,
the handset plays short beeps to alert you.
The following table summarizes the battery charge indicators and actions to take.

Add and register a handset
You can add new handsets ( /DS6501 DS6501-12 DS6501-15 DS6501-16/ / ,
purchased separately) to your telephone system. Each handset must be registered
with the telephone base before use. When rst purchased and properly charged,
each expansion handset shows To register HS... ...see manualand alternately.
Charge the handset before registering it to the telephone base.
To register a handset:
Place the new/non-registered handset in the telephone base.
Wait for about 10 seconds. The handset shows Registering... Registered then
and you hear a beep when the registration process completes. The registration
process takes about 90 seconds to complete.
If registration fails, the handset displays . Try the registration process again.Failed
You cannot register a handset if any other system handset is in use.
If you have not set the date and time for the telephone system, the handset will
prompt you to set the date and time after it is registered to the base. To skip
setting, press .CANCEL
Deregister handsets
If you want to replace a handset, or reassign the designated handset number of
a registered handset, you must deregister all handsets that are registered to the
telephone base. Then register each handset individually.
To make deregistration easier, read all of the instructions on this page before
you begin.
To deregister all handsets:
Press and hold on the telephone base for about 10 seconds /FIND HANDSET
until the IN USE light on the telephone base turns on and starts ashing.
Immediately press again. You must press /FIND HANDSET /FIND HANDSET
while the IN USE IN USE light is still ashing. The light ashes for approximately
ve seconds.
All handsets show To register HS... ...see manualand alternately when the
deregistration process completes. The deregistration process takes about
10 seconds to complete.
You cannot deregister all handsets if any other system handset is in use.
You can deregister all handsets even if their batteries are depleted.
